India started the England tour by winning T20 International series 2-1, but it quickly went down the drain with England’s victory in ODI series. As everyone’s eyes were on the Test series, England had a good head-start with the first win. With the second Test starting on August 9th, bowling coach Bharat Arun has now confirmed that the 24-yr old speedster Jasprit Bumrah won’t take part in the second Test match.

‘Jasprit Bumrah is bowling fit right now but I think it’s too early to put him into a game situation because he needs to come off the plaster and for second test he is out of contention’ says Bharat Arun.

Bumrah sustained thumb fracture during the 1st T20 cricket against Ireland in Malahide while looking to stop a ball on his run-up. He underwent surgery in Leeds and had rehabilitation under the supervision of BCCI Medical team.

Bumrah was replaced by Deepak Chahar in 2nd Test against England and Shardul Thakur in ODI against England. Now, Arun has confirmed that Thakur will continue to play at Lord’s.

Seeing Bumrah in the first Test at Edgbaston, Indian fans speculated his return in second Test. But Arun has confirmed that Bumrah has started practicing in nets but is not match-fit to be in the upcoming Test match on 9th August.

BCCI has included Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the first three Test but has mentioned he will be available for selection from the 2nd Test based on his fitness.

Although without Bumrah, Indian bowling team were able to take all the wickets in the first Test, but it was not sufficient for India to win.

Considering how the batsmen struggled in the first Test apart from Kohli, many consulted that Indian should an extra batsman. But Arun was uneager with the idea stating ’Playing an extra batsman here, I would consider it a very conservative move. I think everything depends on the conditions and if the conditions are not going to be as friendly as the first Test, it makes more sense to play five bowlers.’

In the absence of Bhubaneshwar Kumar and as curators are preparing an all green pace friendly pitch for this 2nd Test, will Bumrah’s absence hurt India more or does India have a backup plan? Will other batters be able to take up the initiative to score or will it be Virat’s show again?
