Chelsea world-record goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga Sealed at £71.6m
Chelsea F.C. has made a world record transfer fee deal for a goalkeeper by signing young Spanish boy, KepaArrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for a whopping 71.6m Euros for a 7-year deal.
And Chelsea has also finally agreed to sell their ex Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for 38 million euros to Real Madrid.
While Courtois was in no mood to stay in Chelsea anymore, The Blues made their move to buy Spanish Kepabefore English Premier League. When the Belgian International refused to report for pre-EPL season training, the club was forced to get a deal done quickly before the transfer window ended so they went straight in with the fee needed forArrizabalaga’s release from Bilbao.
Chelsea broke its own record of signing Spanish striker Alvaro Morata last summer for 57 million euros when they went for another Spanish player Kepafor a hefty transfer fee. After buying Kepaon Wednesday, it was seen that Chelsea’s 71.6million euros deal surpasses the 67million euros deal that Liverpool spent to bring Brazilian Alisson Becker to their team earlier this summer.
The Brazilian had been Chelsea’s first-choice to replace Courtois, but, they were unwilling to enter an auction as there were many players to transfer.
Chelsea was not in a strong position to bargain for Kepa’s fee and had to take a decision to make sure they do not go into the new EPL season without a top-class replacement for their team.
Kepa almost moved to Real for just 18million euros in January, but the deal was not accepted by former manager Zinedine Zidane and Bilbao offered the player a new long-term contract, which increased his buyout figure to 71million euros.
The 23-year-old Spaniard goalkeeper will now have to undergo a medical exam in London ahead of making the forward move which will see him become the most expensive keeper in the history of English Premier League.
Kepa has started his training with his new Chelsea team-mates for the first time and will be available for their Premier League opener against HuddersfieldF.C. on 11th August.
Kepa got a chance to play for his home nation, Spain in the recently concluded World Cup of 2018 because of his form in the last La Liga keeping many clean sheets for Bilbao.
There are many Spaniards presently playing in Chelsea namely Cesc Fabregas, Alvaro Morata, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, and Pedro. KepaArrizabalaga will be the 6th player in ‘The Blues’ whose origin is from Spain.
